So, I woke up this morning to the new Kanye West single "runaway". I remembered hearing it on some awards show and thought: this is one hell of a good song. It had me thinking that I should do a top 10 of 2010. Here we go:
TOP 10 FAVES OF 2010
10. We R Who We R - Ke$ha.
Ok, so she probably won't ever win any awards for singing because, frankly, it's a robot that spits the lyrics, she just looks "pretty" in the videos. But you gotta love a song that says "Tonight we party ha-ha-ha-hard"
9. Dog Days are Over - Florence and the Machine
Something about this song reminds me of my youth. It makes you wanna just let go and fling your arms everywhere. A go-to song when i'm feeling insanely down.
8. Airplanes - B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams
The rapping, the singing, the catchy chorus. Hayley Williams. 'Nuff said!
7. Rockstar - Rihanna
Wow, this chick can go from Pon de Replay innocence to Rockstar trash. This song is most def the anthem for all-night partying. And who did not go WTF when seeing her dressed as Shlash?
6. Need You Now- Lady Antebellum
You could not escape this wherever you went. It reminds me of my late night shifts at Shell. It's very reminiscent of Picture by Kid Rock. A catchy tune that gets stuck in your head.
5. Runaway - Kanye West
If Kanye wasn't autobiographical before, he is now. Seldom do artists squeeze their souls out into a song and Kanye does it over and over again, and this song is a smash hit. Love it!
4. Teenage Dream - Katy Perry
Finally a song with substance from the queen of cheese. It's so private that you feel like the third wheel in her couple. I won't deny that I sometimes hum this song when it plays. It's just that catchy!
3. Like a G6 - Far East Movement featuring Dev and The Cataracs
This song took the club scene by storm this year. It played in every single bar possibly known to man. Some say it's repetitive, I say it's awesome. Really awesome!
2. Ghost - Fefe Dobson
A major comeback for the Canadian rocker. I listened to her tunes in high school and always felt a connection with her persona. I was pleasantly surprised when i heard she was coming out with a new album. And she doesn't dissapoint.
1. Find Your Love - Drake
Another Canadian representing the best Canada has to offer. This song is smooth and the beats are sick. You just feel like getting up and dancing. Drake blew up on the music scene last year and hopefully he will be number one again next year.
Notable good songs of 2010
The only exception - Paramore
Dancing on my own - Robyn
I'm not your toy - La Roux
Over- Drake
Dynamite - Taio Cruz
Club can't handle me - Flo.Rida featuring David Guetta
TOP 10 FAILS of 2010
10. Whip My Hair - Willow Smith
A 9 year old girl singing such adult lyrics as "I whip it hard, I whip it real hard" is kinda weird. Just saying.
9. Can't Be Tamed - Miley Cyrus
She proved that time and time again.
8. California Gurls - Katy Perry
This song is pure candy-covered shit. Everything from the hook to the chorus to Snoop to the video to the lyrics. Pure L.A crap!
7. Telephone - Lady Gaga featuring Beyoncé
The parody by The Key of Awesome is way better. Check it out on Youtube!
6. The Time (Dirty Bit) - Black Eyed Peas
This song should never have been approved. Do they not realise that they are a running gag. People should know when The Time is over. Stop doing music BEP's. Please.
5. Firework - Katy Pery
How can she write great songs like Teenage Dream and Thinking of You and then turn around and do this shit. Katy Perry, please have your songs previewed by an audience older then 6.
4. Ridin' Solo - Jason Derulo
If I hear one more time "Jaaason Deeerulo" I will shoot myself. Usher manages to pull off saying his own name in his song. Jason Derulo fails.
3. Baby - Justin Bieber
Everything about this song is manufactured. Props to the kid for having a nice voice. Props to the corporation that runs his life.
2. Hold my Hand - Michael Jackson and Akon
This is a travesty. Whoever approved this project is retarded. Yes, that is you Jackson Clan, that is you.
1. ANYTHING by Nicki Minaj.
What are your faves and fails from 2010?
